They say if you’re going to do something for the first time, go big—or in my case, go straight to New York Fashion Week. 📸
I’ve shot weddings, corporate events, concerts, and even christenings, but this was my first-ever fashion show. Instead of easing in, I ripped the band-aid right off and jumped into one of the biggest fashion events in the world. And let me tell you—it did not disappoint (even though it started almost two hours late 😅).
Capturing the Energy of Runway 7
The venue? Sony Hall in NYC. The event? Runway 7 at New York Fashion Week—a showcase of top designers, bold styles, and models bringing fashion to life under the spotlight.
Shooting a fashion show is nothing like photographing a wedding or a portrait session. Everything moves fast. The lighting changes constantly. And you don’t get second chances—miss the shot, and it’s gone forever.
But that’s what made it so exciting. My goal was to capture the movement, the confidence, and the artistry of each designer’s collection.
Overcoming Challenges & Making Connections
Fashion shows are unpredictable, and this one was no exception. The night started two hours late, but rather than getting frustrated, I used the time to connect with other photographers from across the U.S.—California, Chicago, Florida, and even one from Belgium! It was amazing to hear their stories and experiences, and it reminded me how photography brings people together, no matter where you’re from.
Then, midway through the show, something unexpected happened—they cleared out the venue. Instead of standing around, I took the opportunity to photograph some of the models in a more intimate setting. These impromptu portraits were some of my favorite shots from the night. It was an honor to capture their energy up close and build connections with them.
My Editing Process: Bringing the Shots to Life
Once the show wrapped, the real work began. Every image was carefully edited using Lightroom and Photoshop, making sure the colors popped, the lighting was just right, and each shot reflected the magic of the moment.
I also gathered some video footage throughout the event—not a full production, but just enough to start piecing together something dynamic. Once edited in Premiere Pro, it’ll bring another dimension to the story of the night.
More to Come – Stay Tuned!
This is just a sneak peek of my work at NYFW—more images will be rolling out soon! It was an incredible experience, and while it was my first fashion photography gig, I have a feeling it won’t be my last.
